The Walking Dead:10 Important Things To Remember Before Season 8

8. Double Agent Dwight

If Eugene is potentially a double agent, then Dwight definitely is. He is still flanking Negan, and yet is pledged to Rick as of last season’s penultimate episode. He wants Negan dead.

His motives for switching sides are clear - Negan burned off half his face, stole his wife Sherry and then taunted him about it at every opportunity. Dwight was not bluffing to Rick, and made that clear by leaving a message on one of his wooden carvings, found by Daryl, insisting that he did not know about The Scavengers having struck a deal with The Saviours.

Dwight, played with great subtly by actor Austin Amelio, has also vanquished any doubts that Negan had over his loyalty in the aftermath of Daryl and Sherry’s disappearance by framing the late Dr Carson (the first), so Negan still believes him to be a faithful servant.

In Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, Dwight plays a key role in deciding the fate of the war. Should showrunners stick to that narrative, he will be one of the highlights of the season.
