He started out as a Savior, and later became one of the most loyal members of Hilltop.

It's unfortunate that Alden isn't given much to do. As a character, he is extremely likeable, but his story of reform is a repeat of what happened with Tara, who was on the side of the Governor when she was first introduced.

His most notable effect on the plot was becoming Enid's boyfriend after Carl died, and he was the one who was meant to suffer because of Enid's death, but that was never really played out on screen.

We saw Carol suffer (again) with Henry's death, but the time needed to build Alden as a character wasn't put in, and he just appears to be pointless. There are fans who do like this character, and he does deserve to have a better role in the story going forward.
