The Walking Dead: 10 Reasons Why Season 4 Will Be The Best Yet

10. Psycho Carl Looks Pretty Interesting

The Walking Dead It used to be a running joke with Walking Dead fans that Carl was just the most irritating kid in the world, and Rick and Lori were horrible negligent parents. Unhappy with being merely tolerable in the first run of episodes, series two saw the (now eldest) Grimes child ascend to a new level of ridiculous dickery. Unhappy with being the reasonable burden of before, he now took every available opportunity to elude his mother €“ whose primary concern in the zombie apocalypse was supposed to be keeping her family safe and together €“ and go rambling in the dangerous zombie wilderness. It was a frustrating way to ramp up cheap drama, and we hated it. But series three saw an interesting change in Carl. He went from an annoying bastard to something resembling a useful part of the group, donning Rick's sweet hat and taking it to the zombies on his lonesome. Yes, he still went AWOL, but this was to find supplies for the group rather than indulge in a little me-time and danger-rambling. We were thrilled with this, as it took possible the most annoying part of season two (Lori's profound uselessness aside) and made it into a strength. Then the showrunners took to a more interesting extreme. Having established that Carl now has the balls and wherewithal to shoot dead anything that might threaten the prison unit, we're now seeing the logical extreme of instilling this worldview in a young teen. Simply put, Carl's more stone-cold than Rick is, and is more than willing to shoot unarmed men just because. It depends how Chandler Riggs does in the part, but the whole idea of a kid going slowly psychopathic against his Dad (just look at his disapproval over allowing the Woodbury residents in) is a goldmine for dramatic material, and I can't wait to see what they do with it.
