The Walking Dead: 10 Twists You Never Saw Coming
4. Rick Not Actually Dying After All
AMC took a very strange approach to Andrew Lincoln's departure from the show, where they just straight up announced that he would be leaving. Rather than letting his departure be a surprise to the viewers, they clearly thought best to reveal it early on. Many expected Rick to die, seeing as it made little sense for him to leave the show for any other reason.
Andrew Lincoln's final episode seemed to cement the idea that Rick Grimes would be biting the dust. He was heavily wounded and was hallucinating seeing old friends from throughout the shows history, such as Shane and Hershel. It really did feel like a goodbye to the character as he was preparing himself to finally let go.
And then the entire group see him sacrifice himself on the bridge, blowing it and all the walkers up too. Now keeping in mind that Rick was already heavily wounded, everyone assumed he was dead...until we saw he had somehow survived down the river stream.
How did he survive such a huge explosion with little to no visible damage? Why did a helicopter called by Jadis come to save him? This plot twist just created more questions than answers.
