The Walking Dead: 13 Easter Eggs And Details You Probably Missed

1. Ben Gardner

Walking Dead Ben Gardner We've already mentioned make-up guru Greg Nicotero once in this list, thanks to his moonlighting as two separate Walkers in The Walking Dead first season, but he's also responsible for another of the more obscure references. When the third season of the show introduced David Morrissey's The Governor, comic book fans would no doubt have seen it as a positive step, considering how memorable the character is in the comic book series. Masquerading as a caring, strong leader, the unhinged, volatile and utterly crazy leader is a portrait of malevolent narcissism, hell-bent on reinforcing his power and retaining his dark secrets, and Morrissey's performance is fitting for the necessary impact of the character. One of his darkest quirks of course is his fish tank, which features the removed heads of The Governor's victims, in one grizzly exhibition to his evil. They are a particularly sticky image from the show, and one of the heads should be familiar to fans of Jaws. Nicotero, in his day job in the make-up and special effects department recreated Ben Gardner's severed head from the most spine-tingling scene in the original Jaws and placed it among the other victims in the fish tank as an homage to the fishy classic.
