The Walking Dead: 15 Most Shocking Moments

12. Beth Dies (Season 5)

The Walking Dead Michonne
AMC

Beth (Emily Kinney) could be construed as rather simple. Not necessarily bad by any stretch of the imagination, but until her spotlight episode with Daryl (Norman Reedus), she never got much development since she first appeared in Season 2. Then, she got kidnapped by a mysterious vehicle as Daryl looks on, unable to save his friend. Fans were fully prepared for another Sophia situation in which we'd never see her again until she's a corpse in a barn.

However, this played out differently. It turned out Beth was taken to a hospital, ran by a police officer named Dawn (Christine Woods), who ruled with a tyrannical flair and permitted disgusting acts from her allies, except of course, those trapped there (arguably worse than Negan). Beth befriends one of the other inmates, Noah (Tyler James Williams) and even helps him escape at the cost of her own freedom.

Rick and the others come to retrieve Beth, and Dawn lets her go in exchange for Noah. This enrages Beth, and when she stabs Dawn in retaliation for her horrific actions, Dawn pulls the trigger, killing Beth.

Daryl straight away shoots Dawn, and then the group leave with Noah, Daryl carrying Beth's body in his arms.

This made all the more heartbreaking because in their previous appearance together, she uttered this prophetic line: "You're gonna miss me so bad when I'm gone, Daryl Dixon".
