The Walking Dead: 50 Best Deaths
11. Merle
The Episode: This Sorrowful Life
How It Happened: Merle set out to assassinate The Governor, but after someone else inadvertently took the bullet, his sniping position was given away. Before he could flee, he was stopped by The Governor's men, and after The Governor beat him - an event that included Merle's former leader biting his fingers off - Merle was shot in the chest, dying and reanimating just in time for his younger brother to arrive and find him feasting on a dead body.
Why It Was Great: It's incredible how the hateful, bigoted redneck of season one became a character it was hard not to like in season three, one who brought a lot of humor to the show and stole every scene he was in - largely thanks to the charisma of Michael Rooker - and his exit from the series left a huge hole in the series after he was gone.
