url-5 After it became clear that he was not going to follow the fate of his comic counterpart (who died after just a few issues), it was interesting to see where the show's writers would take the character of Shane Walsh, Rick's partner in the police force pre-apocalypse. Ultimately, they turned him into a fantastic antagonist - a foil to Rick and a man on the verge of insanity, consumed by lust for Lori as his actions (including his previously mentioned shooting of Otis) become increasingly unstable and dangerous. Having created a divide between himself, Shane seeks to kill the man he once considered his best friend, but now sees as a rival for both Lori and leadership. Having released and murdered a prisoner of the group, Randall, though making it look like he had escaped, Shane leads Rick into the woods under the guise of pursuit, intending to murder him as well. Having anticipated his actions, however, Rick is ready for his friend's betrayal, stabbing him with a knife after he confronts Rick and attempts to take his gun, tragically ending a man he once considered to be his brother. And there you have it, the 7 greatest deaths that have occurred on The Walking Dead to date. Sure, there have been some notable deaths that this article has neglected to mention, most notably that of main cast member Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn), whose demise I felt to be disappointing and anticlimactic, but the ones listed here will live long in the memory as the body count undoubtedly continues to rise in subsequent episodes and seasons of the series.
