The Walking Dead: 7 Scenes That Were Too Extreme For TV

6. The Beheading of Tyreese (Vol. #8: Made to Suffer)

Robert Kirkman really piled it on poor Tyreese, didn€™t he?

Woodbury€™s first assault on West Georgia Correctional Facility proved amateurish, foolhardy, and fatal. Though they were unable to penetrate the prison€™s fences, the Governor€™s men managed to injure Rick Grimes, but at a significant loss of manpower.

While both groups looked to retreat and regroup, sword-wielding Michonne managed to convince her then-boyfriend Tyreese to accompany her on a stealth mission behind enemy lines. Her message was simple: hit Woodbury forces while they€™re on the run, hit €˜em hard, and don€™t look back.

At the last minute, Tyreese confessed his doubt about the soundness of the mission. Michonne, doing her best Lady Macbeth, challenged Tyreese to be bloody, bold, and resolute, €œIf we only kill two of them€ this was worth it.€ Reluctantly, Tyreese agreed.

Michonne€™s words proved prophetic. The two of them managed to kill exactly two of the Governor€™s men before Tyreese was captured and Michonne forced to flee without her trademark blade.

Seizing what seemed like a golden opportunity, the Governor and his force returned to the prison intending to use Tyreese as a bargaining chip against Rick and the remaining survivors. The negotiation period was curt, and, unfortunately for Tyreese, he was on the losing end of a utilitarian experiment; the greatest good came from protecting the prison, regardless of the consequences.

In one of the most graphic comic displays since Alan Moore€™s From Hell, the Governor incrementally separates Tyreese from himself while the survivors watch in horror.
