7. Carl (And Judith) Grimes

It's a credit to the writers of the show (not something you can give all that often, in particular when it comes to developing characters) that Carl is on this list. It's not all that long ago he would've been close to the top of not just mine, but most lists of Walking Dead characters who need to die. Now he's come through the annoying teen phase, and is all the better for it (the turning point seemed to be when he found a supply of pudding, again proving there's no problem chocolate can't solve). Now he's actually developed almost into a leader amongst the survivors, a mini-Rick as it were. Gone are the brattish ways, and instead he's level-headed and an important member of the group. His transformation is really shown in Season 6 with the scenes he shares with Ron, who is essentially the Carl of old, only even worse (and if he were to go, there'd be no complaints here). The other mention in this entry is Judith. I can't say it's because of her importance or that she's an excellent character, or really offer all that many details, but, well: she's a baby.
