The Walking Dead: 8 Dumbest Moments In Rick's Last Episode

1. "I'm Judith Grimes"

At first glance, the heroic introduction of an older Judith Grimes - in an episode all about Rick's legacy and the world he's leaving behind - signalled the dawn of a new chapter in a perfect bookending way. Unfortunately, the moment itself was staged so awkwardly that it sort of falls apart under scrutiny.

The new group the episode suddenly jumps to, completely surrounded by walkers and fighting for their lives, have effectively just ran into a 10-year-old girl wielding a katana and wearing a cowboy hat, like she's somehow going to solve all their problems. Not only that, but the way the character proclaims "I'm Judith Grimes" in such a drawn out, teasing way works effectively for the audience, but in the context of the narrative, means nothing to these new people.

That's something you can kinda just go with though if you suspend your disbelief for a moment. What's harder to get away from is the lingering feeling that this should have been Carl. Had they not killed him off, he could have ushered in this new chapter of the show. Not only is he Rick's flesh and blood, but he's been there since the beginning, and seeing him grow into the man his father always wanted him to be would have been the perfect send off for Rick.

Instead, it's just an awkward moment that reaffirms how dumb it was to kill off Carl in the first place.
