The first half of the season's penultimate episode may not have been an action-packed episode or one full of laughs, but it was certainly an important one. Open Your Eyes started tying up a number of threads laid down throughout the season, such as Siddiq's crippling PTSD, Alpha's lie about Lydia, and the mysterious illness running rampant through Alexandria.

Carol's imprisonment of a Whisperer led to the revelation that almost none of Alpha's followers knew Lydia was still alive, something that Carol decided to weaponize. Riding out into the wild, the duo came across Aaron and Gamma, the latter of whom finally realized that Alpha had never been willing to make the type of sacrifice that she demanded of everyone else, at the cost, however, of Lydia, whose unhappiness over being used by Carol sent her out on her own.

Of course, the biggest, game-changing moment involved Siddiq, who finally pieced together his PTSD and solved the mystery of the infection. As it turned out, Dante was a Whisperer spy all along, and had been the one who had forced Siddiq to watch all the beheadings. Before Siddiq could do anything about it, however, Dante took his life, bringing an end to the father, doctor, and overall good guy and giving actor Avi Nash the chance to go out in the spotlight with a great performance.
