The Walking Dead: Every Season 2 Episode Ranked Worst To Best
3. 18 Miles Out
If Save the Last One shows audiences Shane's true colours, 18 Miles Out is where he embraces his antagonistic relationship with Rick and the two finally come to blows after episodes of taunting build-up.
After fixing Randall's leg injury, Rick and Shane drive him eighteen miles away from the farm, blindfolded and hogtied, so he won't threaten the group's safety. After revealing he knows Maggie, though, Shane goes to kill him and ends up fighting Rick over his brash decision-making.
The conflict between Rick and Shane is what drives the episode, as they debate, shout at each other, and finally lash out when they can't reach an understanding. It's thrilling stuff, brought to searing life by the performances of Andrew Lincoln and Jon Bernthal, and foreshadows their final confrontation in just a few episodes time.
There is a brief lull in proceedings when it switches to the farm and Andrea's less-than-stellar treatment of a suicidal Beth, but between Rick and Shane's growing animosity and the moral dilemma created by Randall's existence, 18 Miles Out is simply a knock-out.
