The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Evolution'

1. The Death Of Jesus

It was all going so well until the last few minutes, but as The Walking Dead prepared to wrap-up what was undoubtedly its best mid-season finale since the fourth season, the show makes one of its most pointless decisions ever (and that's really saying something considering this is TWD), and kills off Jesus.

While deaths are to be expected in a show of this nature, this one leaves a very sour taste in our mouths, and that's largely because the character has been criminally neglected since, well, ever. Tom Payne has spoken about how "frustrated" he is with the lack of development the character received, and his feelings are easy to understand.

Fans of the comics will know full well just how important - as well as badass - Jesus is. What's more, he is one of the finest LGBTQ+ characters on television, and undoubtedly the greatest of the few on the show.

Showrunner Angela Kang attempted to justify her decision to kill off Jesus in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter by arguing that the show still has "multiple series regulars who are LGBTQ characters", but that's really beside the point. None of these aforementioned characters can hold a candle to Jesus - least of all Tara, who is seemingly being championed as some sort of hero in spite of the fact that the character serves zero purpose to the show.

The sad thing is is that for the first time since Season 6, The Walking Dead had all the makings of great television, but the writers blew it once again.

What did you make of The Walking Dead mid-season finale? Are you reeling over the controversial decision to kill off Jesus?
