The Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale: 4 Ups & 4 Downs From 'Hearts Still Beating'

3. Rick And Aaron's Story

The Walking Dead Rick Aaron

Of all the random Alexandrians introduced over the last couple of seasons, it's Aaron who has really been able to break out and establish himself as a character. Sure, he's a character we still don't know that well, but he's a decent and likeable guy, and works well with Rick's group.

So it is that he has one of the better storylines here, and a pretty inventive one too. Picking up on his and Rick's attempts at finding supplies, they attempt to cross the lake in a hole-riddled boat. It's one of the few moments of genuine tension in the episode, as the boat fills with water before Aaron is pulled under.

The presence of the zombies emerging from the water is suitably creepy, and Aaron's expandable enough that you do wonder if they might actually kill him off.

There's also the added mystery of the person in boots watching them, who returns in the post-credits sting. The big theory is that this is a Whisperer, which seems way too early, but hopefully there is some solid payoff to that.
