The Walking Dead Official Magazine #1 Review

The Walking Dead has come a long way from its humble, comic book beginnings. Since the start of the hugely popular AMC TV series, we now have video games, board games, books, T-shirts, hats; you name it. It's all a sign that Robert Kirkman's zombie soap opera has transcended to become one of the the biggest franchises in the world. And to tie in with the third season of Walking Dead that has just started, we now have The Walking Dead Official Magazine. The 100 page, quarterly publication is primarily aimed at fans of the TV show with issue #1 planting third season newcomer Danai Gurira (Michonne) on the front cover. Inside you have exclusive interviews with Robert Kirkman, Walking Dead executive producer Glen Mazzara and Charlie Adlard, the man responsible for the stunning artwork in the Walking Dead comic. Being the official magazine, expect to find a lot more exclusive interviews with the cast and crew in future issues. Other highlights from issue #1 include a behind the scenes report from the set of season 3, a showcase of all the different covers that were produced for the 100th issue of the comic book and my personal favorite, a catch-up guide to everything that has happened in issues 1 - 100 of the Walking Dead comic. Having read every issue of the comic so far, it was fun to revisit moments that I'd forgotten about. If you haven't read the comic book, it's a handy catch-up guide that may contain some spoilers about where the TV series may go in the future. But if you want my opinion, there is no substitute to reading the groundbreaking comic series for yourself, it really is one of the best things you will ever read. The rest of the Official Magazine is full of the stuff you would expect to find, competitions, storyline analysis and news etc. But overall, it is a magazine that uber-fans will enjoy reading as it has unparalleled access to all things Walking Dead. The Walking Dead Official Magazine is available now in the USA and in the UK on November 8th.
