1. Keeping Randall Alive
Out of all Rick's bumbling, I really think this one's the worst. Randall was the backbone of the plot for season two, replacing the barn as the source of Rick and Shane's bickering. We first come across Randall when Rick tracks a despondent Hershel down to a bar he's a member of a group of survivors who are apparently renowned for their brutality. Needless to say, they encounter Rick's posse, shooting breaks out and Randall is impaled leg-first on a fencepost, and Rick saves him out of human decency. I'm sorry if I sound like Shane here, but there's a time and place for leniency, and this wasn't it. I'd understand them saving the guy if he was a regular person, but he isn't he's part of a well-armed group, and could lead the group back to the farm once he's healed. Rick doesn't make this situation any better by handcuffing him in a barn and leaving him open to Shane's barbarism while he dithers over what to do, effectively utterly turning Randall against them. The answer was simple he should've euthanized him, rather than picked him up in the first place. Taking him and releasing him would've spelled disaster for the group, and it was a headache everyone could've done without. As it was, the whole Randall issue pushed Shane over the edge and inadvertently got Dale killed, all for the sake of one chap who got killed anyway. Good going, Rick. So that's what I think. What do you think? Feel free to comment!
