8. Breaking The News About Everyone Being Infected When Morale Is Gone
Do you remember Scary Movie 3? Perhaps you wiped it from your mind. Hell, I wouldn't blame you. Anyway, in the middle of the film, George (a cross between 8 Mile's Eminem and Signs' Joaquin Phoenix) has to break the news to Cody (the kid from The Ring) that Brenda (I've no idea) is dead. Needless to say, he does this horribly, and even sticks in the revelation that he ran over Cody's dog while coming over to talk to him. Admittedly, this is all very silly look what franchise we're dealing with here but it's not entirely removed from what Rick does in the Season 2 finale. Basically, we get to a point where the Walkers have finally had enough of season 2's slow pacing so decide to crash the party in great numbers. Needless to say, the barn gets overwhelmed and a number of characters are killed both before and during the fracas, including Jimmy (who?), Shane and apparently Andrea. The Atlanta group have lost their safe haven, Hershel's group have lost their farm and everyone's very sad. It's at this moment that Rick twists the knife, dropping the unknown bomb that Dr. Jenner told him the series one finale that everyone's already infected, and will turn when they die. I don't know about you, but I think there was a time and a place for for this gut-punch, and clearly, this wasn't it. I know he's trying to re-establish himself as the group's leader lord knows, their attempt at democracy spectacularly failed but becoming top dog and crushing everyone's hopes and dreams are two entirely different matters.
