The Walking Dead Season 5: First 8 Episodes Ranked Worst To Best

4. Strangers

The arrival of the Hunters on the show had been a long-anticipated event by fans of the comics. In the season premiere, Terminus had been revealed to be a sanctuary only for cannibals and despite the fact it was in ruins by episode's end, its leader Gareth, along with a few other survivors, returned to breathe life into the popular Hunters arc from the comics in the second episode of the season, Strangers. After how explosive No Sanctuary was to kick off the season, Strangers dialed it back a bit to let the group catch their breath and deal with Father Gabriel Stokes, another awaited character from the comics, who led them back to his church and into another mystery about who he is and what he'd done to survive. Ultimately, the majority of the episode feels like a number of the series' prior episodes, wherein a sliver of the group sets out on a supply run while the rest hold down the fort, with only an early realization by Daryl that they're being watched giving viewers a clue that something else is going on. Though the group all agree on heading to D.C., suggesting some semblance of an optimistic ending for the episode, Bob's silent departure into the woods changes everything when he's knocked out. Upon waking, Gareth and the Hunters greet him, dining on his leg with one hell of a one-liner: "If it makes you feel any better, you taste much better than we thought you would."
