8. Developing Fringe Characters
Without good characters, a show is nothing. The story can be rich and detailed, the action can be big and explosive, the drama can be tense and edgy, but none of that matters if you simply couldn't care less about the characters on screen. Spencer fell into that category following the first half of the season. He was cowardly, largely selfish and simply didn't offer a lot other than conflict for Deanna and the group. He was a waste of screen space in a show in desperate need of a cull. However, with Spencer in last chance saloon, we've witnessed an important scene for him personally, and hopefully this can be the turning point for Spencer to grow into a genuine member of the survivors. If he's going to resort back to old Spencer though, then his time should expire.
