The Walking Dead Season 7: 5 Ups And 2 Downs From 'New Best Friends'
Ups...
5. The Cold Open With The Saviours
New Best Friends opens with a meeting between the Kingdom and the Saviours. It's familiar to one that took place earlier in the season, and once again sees Richard and Jared squaring up to each other.
Yet again things escalate due to the confrontational (and dickish) attitude of both men, to the point where they pull guns on each other. It gets more interesting, though, when Morgan knocks the gun out of Jared's hand, and then Benjamin gets involved in the fight as well. Ezekiel and the incredibly world-weary Gavin simply look on and tell them to stop.
It's an effective opening, with the right amount of tension to work (it's plausible that one of these guys will kill the other). It's also another good use of the Saviours, much like last week, which keeps them relevant and interesting but without overdoing it with Negan (who once again doesn't appear, and I don't think his absence and the show's improvement are unrelated).
