The Walking Dead Season 7: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Cell'

1. Lack Of Advancement

While on the whole I enjoyed the episode, it's another one where it doesn't feel like there's any real advancement of the plot. We get to learn more about Dwight and the Saviours, which could payoff later on, but Daryl's still himself, and still locked up, and nothing else has really changed.

Furthermore, since this is the only location of the episode, it means that once again the fallout from Negan killing Glenn and Abraham isn't examined. Viewed in isolation it's enjoyable, but there's not much here going towards the wider picture, and all the death stuff has been left in the dust. It's hard not to feel a little frustrated by that. The deaths were built towards all summer, ostensibly the biggest moment of the show, but now we're left with absolutely no idea of what's going on. We've spent time with the show's most interesting characters the past couple of weeks (Carol, Morgan, Daryl), so it's easier to forgive. However, three weeks in, it feels like we've had three season premieres.
