The Walking Dead Season 7: 7 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Cell'

1. Everything Is All Dwight

Daryl is one of the stars of this episode, but shining even brighter is Dwight.

Austin Amelio is cut from a similar cloth to Norman Reedus, capable of doing a lot without saying much, and he's able to successfully convey the troubled duality of 'D'. He's scared of Negan and knows it's safer to follow the rules, but he's not inherently a bad person. We learn a lot about him here, as he goes from an outright antagonist to someone we can understand a bit more (though still a bad guy right now). There's plenty of backstory for his character, as we learn about him and his wife, what happened to his face, and get some fascinating insights into his relationship with Negan.

Characterisation hasn't always been The Walking Dead's strongest suit, but with Ezekiel last week and Dwight this week, they are making some good strides on that front early in Season 7. 'D' was already given the most screentime of the Saviours, a recognisable face after his run-in with Daryl, but now he truly deserves it.
