The Walking Dead Season 7 Finale: 3 Ups & 5 Downs From 'The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life'

2. War Is Here

After dragging its heels to get us to this point, The Walking Dead is finally delivering on its promise of war.

The battle we get here is just a taster of things to come, but it's enough to whet the appetite for action on a much larger scale. The choreography leaves something to be desired, as it's mostly just a few people aimlessly wandering or running around and randomly firing shots off, but since this isn't the proper war it should only escalate and improve as the armies get organised. It's a hindrance to this episode, in that it can't do too much and has to leave the bigger battles for Season 8, but holds promise for what's to come.

Having both the Kingdom and the Hilltop arrive as the calvary worked well, especially since it brought the Shiva attack and placed Maggie as leader of the Hilltop (the episode makes no mention of Gregory, and his betrayal of Maggie et al to the Saviours is going to be a bit pointless now).

The three leaders united at the end worked as a prologue to war, and means that, even if this season has largely fizzled out (not that it ever sparked all that much to begin with), next year should really ramp up the excitement and drama.
