The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale: Every Dumb Moment, Ranked Bad To Worst
8. The Saviours Accepting Defeat So Easily
Even before Negan is properly defeated in the season 8 finale, all of the Saviours surrender to the Alexandrian army, conceding defeat after their ambush goes wrong and their guns literally explode in their hands. That makes sense.
What comes after doesn't.
Obviously the remaining Saviours aren't going to put up a fight when they're so clearly beaten, but the way they accept their integration with Rick's group, so easily and without hesitation, comes completely out of left field.
For the most part, the Saviours (except goodie-two-shoes Alden), especially those closest to Negan, have been shown to be pretty reprehensible and loyal-to-a-fault people. They've defended his way of life through thick and thin, and the few voices of dissent were all executed during the planned coup in the previous episode, meaning these Negan loyalists turning good at the last minute doesn't at all fit with their characterisation.
Yeah, they might have agreed to integrate simply out of the desire to survive, but why do they all look so happy about it? Without resistance or even one dissenting voice, the episode quickly cuts to an entire montage showing how well the once-enemies are now getting along, and it just doesn't ring true.
