The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale: Every Dumb Moment, Ranked Bad To Worst
3. Morgan's Goodbye And Jadis' Return
The Morgan missteps don't end there though, as after the character regains a semblance of who he used to be, he's shown taking off on his own for some well-deserved "me" time. That's a fine way to conclude his character's arc on paper, but the way it's executed in the context of the show is plain ol' stupid.
His final scene sees him visiting Jadis on his way out, informing her that she's welcome to join Rick and aid him in building a new civilisation. He gives her a big speech that "people are everything" and how she shouldn't live on her own... only to immediately contradict himself by actually going out into the wilderness to live on his own.
Whaaa?
Obviously, the out-of-show explanation is that Lennie James needs a reason to leave Rick's group and eventually make his way over to Texas to join the cast of Fear The Walking Dead, but the justification in the finale itself doesn't make sense. He might need some time alone, but to have his imminent journey across the USA come immediately after he convinces someone to join another group because of the importance of community is incredibly poor writing.
Not only that, but Jones doesn't even get a satisfying send off or any sense of closure with the cast. There's no goodbye to Carol, Rick or even Henry who he's spent the entire season bonding with, and unless you knew about Fear, you'd have no idea he was leaving for good at all.
