The Walking Dead Season 8 Implications: What 'Mercy' Really Means

1. The Show Is Back On Track

As a premiere episode, Mercy is a great way to kick off the new season, and in particular the All Out War storyline.

Season 7 suffered, among other problems, from being too slow, having too little action, separating its characters and focusing on them one location at a time, and being way too bleak and depressing.

In the space of one episode, it feels like all of those issues have been addressed. There's a clear sense of the show moving forward, it's action-packed - and that's only the start of the fighting -, major characters are working together again, and there's a far more optimistic tone. It's still early days, and there are some familiar stumbles (like the plot armour coating Negan)but the signs are very promising for the war arc at least, and it seems the show is indeed back on track.
