The Walking Dead Season 8 Implications: What 'Mercy' Really Means

8. But What About The War?

Rick's got an important win, but this one assault on the Sanctuary isn't going to be enough. Not even close.

Although they do inflict some damage upon the Saviours, there are still so many of them - and they haven't suffered any serious casualties - that they can quite easily regroup and go again.

The war isn't going to be won with one or two battles, and we can expect to see them trading victories back and forth for a number of episodes to come. The first few episodes were described as mini-action movies, so it's clear we'll be seeing a few more instalments of this ilk. The war is long and arduous, and this really is just the beginning. Negan may have been caught off-guard here, but he's unlikely to let that happen again, and now things can really start going 'all out'.
