The Walking Dead Season 8 Premiere: 6 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Mercy'

1. The Intense Action

The first few episodes have been described as being like mini action movies, and while it takes a little while for the bullets to start flying, ultimately Mercy does not disappoint on that front.

The show has often been great at building tension, and it utilises that strength again here with the attack on the Saviours. It wisely takes some time in establishing the situation and building up to it, without a clear idea of what exactly is going to happen.

It's a nervy encounter as you're waiting for something to happen, and it makes for a truly gratifying payoff when the sparks to begin to fly. The Sanctuary is raining bullets, walkers are weaponised, and Daryl is riding around on his motorcycle blowing sh*t up all over the place. It is, frankly, glorious.
