The Walking Dead Season 9: 2 Ups & 3 Downs From ‘Omega’

1. Alpha's Arrival

In spite of being on the show for such a short time, The Whisperers have already proven to be a great bunch of antagonists. Whether it be the mystery surrounding their motivations, or the inability to distinguish them from the dead, the group offer something fresh and exciting to the series - and it's been a while since we've been able to say that.

Of course, every great group requires a great leader, and we learn a great deal about the woman in charge of The Whisperers in this episode. Although the flashbacks prove tiresome, Lydia's words of warning about her mother are enough to build up anticipation, and this anticipation pays off really well by the end of the episode.

As Omega had been pretty uneventful, it's safe to say nobody was expecting to see a horde of Whisperers - dressed in full walker garb - approaching the gates of Hilltop in broad day light. What's more, Alpha's introduction is the perfect way to conclude the episode as, in spite of the earlier disappointments, this ending leaves viewers wanting more.

Yes, the closing moments of Omega are nothing short of exemplary, and serve as a reminder of how good The Walking Dead could be if it would stop taking lengthy breaks in the narrative to focus on characters we've yet to care about.
