The Walking Dead Season 9: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'The Obliged'

1. The Way Rick Gets Injured

Rick Impaled The Walking Dead

As the next episode of The Walking Dead is set to be Rick Grimes' last, it's very likely that the injury he sustained in The Obliged is what will kill him. There are a hundred and one ways that Rick Grimes could die, and any one of them could've been satisfactory (although there are plenty that would've been awful too), but the writers have managed to find the perfect way to bid adieu to the beloved character.

Why? Because not only does the impalement pay tribute to the show's most significant scene, but it's also a way that shows Rick's commitment to the new world that he's attempting to build. Rick refuses to give up on the bridge, and this passion for a better tomorrow is ultimately what'll get him killed. Moreover, it's almost poetic that, after years of fighting of antagonist after antagonist, it's a run-of-the-mill accident that will see him off. What's more, throwing viewers back to the horse moment from Season 1 also somewhat bookends Rick's entire journey on the show.
