The Walking Dead Season 9: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From ‘Warning Signs’

1. Anne's Betrayal

Character development is one of The Walking Dead's strong suits. Take a look at characters like Carol, Daryl and even Beth, and compare who they were at the beginning of the show, to who they are now (or in Beth's case, who she was before her death).

You'll see that they've learned to adapt to their environment, and figured out who to trust in order to survive. However, developing characters has sort of fell by the wayside in the past couple of years, with the likes Morgan repeating the same stories over and over again. It probably didn't help that the primary antagonist Negan is about as one dimensional as you can get.

The ninth season has boasted a change in this department, with characters once again showing development. Anne is a primary example, as she's learned a lot and adapted in the past 18 months. She was showing promise of becoming a decent leader, and an even better character. That's what makes her decision to betray her friends all the more nauseating. There's already plenty of conflict in the show (most of it currently from within the group), so is it really necessary to turn one of the heroes into a villain? The answer is no.
