The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs From "Bye"

9. Down: Michonne's Secrecy Is Old News

The Ones Who Live
AMC

Following on from last week's twist, which found Michonne adopting the name "Dana" and the personality of a weak survivor doomed to the outside, "Bye" finds everyone's favourite katana-wielding badass in undercover mode.

There are advantages to this twist. Not only does it allow Danai Gurira the opportunity to play the spy - not just watching the workings of the CRM but also her estranged husband, now a man forever changed - and highlight just how incredible Michonne is at deceitfully keeping herself out of harm's way.

That being said, the novelty of Michonne's double act quickly loses steam, as she's forced into action during a walker attack (or "delt" attack, to adopt the CRM vernacular), shattering her disguise.

It's not only that Michonne's act is obviously going to be short lived, though - it's that, after fourteen years of TV, The Walking Dead has done this dance so many times (with Carol, most notably) that's it hard to find any tension in Michonne's secrecy. It's all very "been there, done that," you know?

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
