So much of The X-Files' mythology was built from shadowy government informants feeding Mulder information to help him in his investigations that their importance is sometimes overlooked. Their presence - from Deep Throat to X to Marita Covarrubias - was simply taken as a given. While at least two of the three sources mentioned are dead (along with characters like the Well Manicured Man, played by the late John Neville), expect some form of informant to pop up during the show's revival. Joel McHale's character - a conservative radio host - seems to fit the bill somewhat, and at least one older gentleman with some presumably inside knowledge has been seen in the trailers for the revival telling Mulder that he's "close" to the heart of the alien conspiracy. Will these figures combine into some new variation of the old, shadowy Syndicate? That remains to be seen.
