The X-Files: 10 Things We Learned From Home Again

9. Though Not A Sequel To Home, There Were Connections

Home Again was not a direct sequel to Home. It cannot even be seen as an indirect sequel. However, there were connections, mostly in style and theme. Of the two, style was the more obvious. There were several shots that seemed almost lifted from Home, most notably the Band-Aid Man crawling into the back of a garbage truck feeling akin to the surviving Peacock brother climbing into the trunk of his car, and the use of overly upbeat music - Wonderful! Wonderful! in Home, and Downtown in Home Again - as the soundtrack to a brutal murder scene. Speaking of brutal murder scenes, the murders of Sheriff Andy Taylor in Home and Nancy Huff in Home Again were strikingly similar, though while the Peacocks ascended the staircase of Taylor's home, Band-Aid Man descends the one in Home Again in scenes that almost serve as bookends. As for theme - you have the small town law enforcement, or well local law enforcement, since Home Again is set in Philly, butting heads with the FBI but ultimately being grateful for their involvement, and the idea of an isolated community within the greater world at large, albeit poverty is a far cry from incest. In any case, the connections are there, though Home remains far and away the better episode. Still, the Downtown scene was pretty damn cool.
