14. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (Season 3, Episode 4)

X Files Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose
"You know, there are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified one than autoerotic asphyxiation." "Why are you telling me that?" - Clyde Bruckman and Fox Mulder
When self-proclaimed psychics are being found eviscerated and with their eyes removed, Mulder and Scully arrive to try to make sense of the crimes. In their investigation, they meet and recruit the help of Clyde Bruckman, a life insurance salesman with the unique ability to tell how and when a person is going to die. Can Mulder, Scully, and the reluctant Bruckman put a stop to this serial killer before more psychics are murdered? Guest-starring Peter Boyle, who won an Emmy for his portrayal of the eponymous Clyde Bruckman, this is a much funnier episode for those who may not want to begin the show with a case such as "Irresistible" or "Home" (see #12). Even the darker aspects--the gougings and eviscerations--are tempered by humor that is far more clever than slapstick. And yes, we get a hint of just how Agent Mulder might finally meet his maker.
