4. That's Not What Most People Mean When They Say They Want To Talk In Private
This is clearly not what Fox Mulder had in mind when he told the deceased Dr. Sanjay's friend (about to be revealed as his lover) that he wanted to talk in private. Of course, Mulder might have confused the man when he said "I'm safe, you can trust me." After all, Mulder has been used to years and years of conspiracy. Clearly, Gupta (which we are told means secret, so that's probably not his real name) thought he was referring to a different sort of "safe" - and a different sort of "talk" altogether. Oops. Cue Mulder's shocked look when Gupta tries to go below the equator. The episode sort of dodges a bullet in using this sort of gay joke - it's played pretty light, and one scene later, Dana Scully comments about how a person shouldn't have to hide their sexuality in this day and age.
