Time is marching towards thirty years since The X-Files first brightened our cathode rays, in which time FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) have run the gamut on all manner of weird and wonderful beasties, bugs, aliens and anomalies.
Paving the way for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural, The X-Files set the standard for serialised sci-fi and fantasy, and employed a whole host of actors who would see their share of screen time on the show's spiritual successors.
David Duchovny has said he is more than ready to return for a twelfth season - as long as the show's creator Chris Carter is on-board. Given the threads left unresolved at the conclusion of season 11, there certainly seems to be the need for it, and Carter himself has said that he always intended to resolve the series, but with Gillian Anderson living a more refined acting life on Broadway and putting in award-winning turns as the Iron Lady, it might never be a reality, no matter how much we want to believe...
