The X-Files: 10 Ways To Continue The Franchise

3. William: The Series

This is what the real Next Generation version of The X-Files should be: not a couple of Mulder and Scully clones, but a literal next generation. There is a wealth of material just sitting around, waiting to be mined when it comes to William. Coming of age, coming to terms with what (if any) powers he has, the conspiracy that has sucked his family into its wake - it's all just waiting, a virtual gold mine of plot lines. The X-Files and the mythology therein already spans two generations of a family, so why not a third? The trouble would be casting the right William, and having him be the right age. Beyond that? It's a perfect setup. Imagine that the show doesn't given you an answer to the season 10 finale right away. Instead, it focuses on William seeking out his birth parents, discovering who and what he is, and eventually, finding out what happened to them on that bridge. And then finding them. This option also allows for David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to return in guest spots, regardless of their age.
