3. The Character Has Always Been Credited As "The Doctor"
Ask any Doctor Who fan what the name of the main character is you'll get back, "IT'S THE DOCTOR, NOT DOCTOR WHO" This has been a long-running issue with fans of the show. We'll quickly point out that they're even credited as "The Doctor" and have always been; however, this wasn't always the case, unbeknownst to many fans.
From Series 1 to The Christmas Invasion, he was credited as "Doctor Who"; the change in the credits didn't occur until Series 2, when Tenth Doctor actor Davis requested it.
In the Classic Series, the credit change didn't actually take place until head writer John-Nathan Turner took the reins and, in 1981, made the change in Series 19. There are several references to the Doctor going by 'Dr W', or even to Bessie having the number plate 'WHO 1'-even some of the actors refer to the character as 'Doctor Who'. So while this is certainly an annoying thing for us Whovians, we can't really blame those who made this mistake!
