Titans Season 1: 4 Ups & 0 Downs From ‘Doom Patrol’

3. Laying The Groundwork

While much of the episode still revolved around Raven, the main narrative clearly took a backseat in 'Doom Patrol' as the episode was essentially a backdoor pilot for the DC Universe's next live-action series, titled, you guessed it, Doom Patrol. Obviously, Beast Boy's connection to the newcomers ensured that their involvement felt relevant, but it has also paved the way what looks like it could be an incredibly engaging series.

The reveal that Dr. Niles Clauder (or "Chief" as he became affectionately known) saved Beast Boy led to the introduction of Elasti-Woman, Robotman and Negative Man. However, in a rather surprising twist, they weren't just supporting characters here, they were the stars.

As Beast Boy introduced Raven to them for the first time, he was also introducing them to us - and what an enticing group of characters they appear to be. From Robotman's upset at no longer being able to enjoy the pleasures of humanity to Elasti-Woman's struggles to quite literally hold herself together, each member of this family faces some major obstacles, and we couldn't help but root for them.

It's not exactly recommended to take a break from the main storyline so early on, yet Titans has done it twice in four episodes. However, this time, it was much more successful and has set the stage for what looks to be an incredibly compelling spin-off show.
