Titans Season 1: 4 Ups & 0 Downs From ‘Doom Patrol’

1. Everything Is Finally Coming Together

Titans Dick Raven

Raven reunited with Dick and Starfire? Check. Beast Boy finally feeling relevant to the show? Check. All four Titans in the same place at the same time? Definitely check.

While Titans has taken its time getting to the point, 'Doom Patrol' did a great job of pulling things together. However, it did so in an unexpectedly subtle way. The episode's focus on the new arrivals tricked us into thinking that it was solely intended for the purpose of setting up a spin-off show, but it did so much more than just that.

It didn't just introduce Beast Boy, it allowed us to get to know him and how he clearly feels connected to Raven. Similarly, it allowed us to see how Raven feels completely at home whenever she's around him, setting up an interesting dynamic between the pair that will likely continue throughout the season. Finally, it also reunited her with Dick, who was beginning to come to terms with his anger, and all of this allowed her to, temporarily at least, overcome her own demons.

In the end, Garfield left with Raven, Dick and Starfire, unofficially bringing all four Titans together for the first time. Though we were robbed of seeing what that awkward car journey full of introductions would have looked like, it's completely forgivable considering that the show has made us wait so long for this moment.

For playing second fiddle throughout the whole episode, the main narrative managed to develop at a surprisingly quick rate and thus, 'Doom Patrol' has set up what could very well be the most important episode of the series so far.
