13. Some Mothers Do Ave Em Jessicas First Christmas (BBC, 1974)
Frank desperately tries to get a part in the church Nativity play, despite Father OHaras efforts to stop him. Christmas just offers a multitude of new ways for well-intentioned walking catastrophe Frank Spencer to cause chaos. The physical comedy is spot on and the verbal humour also hits the mark, particularly with Michele Dotrice (Betty) acting as the straight man (although she gets a few decent quips in) to Frank strange ramblings like worrying that his baby daughter playing Jesus will cause her to become a lesbian. The episode boasts some very daring stuntwork and, as always, Michael Crawfords (Frank) performance is sublime. Its nothing groundbreaking but its good fun and it doesnt feel like theres too little material for its extended runtime.
Best Moment: Franks winch mechanism for the Nativity play catapulting him through the church roof.
