8. South Park €“ Woodland Critter Christmas (Comedy Central, 2004)

In a masterful parody of old Christmas cartoons, Stan is repeatedly coerced into helping a group of woodland animals prepare for the birth of their lord and saviour. South Park€™s done quite a few Christmas episodes but, for me, this is the only one that really stands out. It€™s hard to say much about the episode without ruining the twist that starts the final scene (which comes brilliantly out of the blue) but it€™s a welcome return to straight-up surrealism after the show€™s shift to focussing on social satire, and is just a pretty decent story in itself with some excellent twists and some beautifully dark content as well as being an ingenious spoof of traditional Christmas cartoons with rhyming narration. Best Moment: The last twist. The one that reveals what€™s actually going on
