Top 5 Everymen Characters On TV

5. Xander Harris - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy Xander

Ok, as this is my second article and my first time going near Joss Whedon-land, I'll ask you to be kind, folks... Yes, of course Xander is here, he has to be. He was the me on TV who got to sit beside she who would be the object of my affection, and who still hasn't returned my emails. On top of this, he gets to fight demons and still be an incredible goof about the whole thing. The reason for my own, and every other insecure teenager's, identification with Xander was simple €“ he's a nice and brave person who gets to say funny things and fight demons, and that's something we all want to identify with. As well as these simple features, there was the fact that he is so direction-less until, what, Season 4? An endearing fact to my teenage self was that he had literally no interest in school whatsoever in the first three seasons, with the notable exception when the hot biology teacher wants to decapitate him or he saves the school building so he can blow it up a month later, that is. But the main reason for Xander identifiability is that while he can be like his viewers in many ways, we also aspire to be as brave and honourable as he is in times of need. He is both who we are and who we would want to be. For Christ's sake, he turned down Sarah Michelle Geller in a raincoat, so how much more honourable can you get? Scratch the part about wanting to be him though...
