Vikings: 12 Most Brutal Moments So Far

In episode 1 of season 5, we see Ivar attack the city of York. Everyone is slaughtered as Ivar and his men are victorious, however, one poor priest gets it the worst. Now, remember the Vikings hate Christians, especially priests...

Ivar orders his men to melt a gold cross in the church and then as they hold the priest down, Ivar wedges his mouth open using his two hand axes, which frankly would be painful enough. Then to his command, we see Ivar's men pour molten gold down the priest's throat. It begins to steam and bubble as the priest inevitably swallows and chokes on it before it quickly turns solid.

A horse then drags the body of the dead priest out of the church and we are left with the terrifying shot of Ivar laughing in joy from what he just did. Alex Høgh Andersen is a superb actor in showing just how brutal Ivar is and always making us viewers uncomfortable.
