Premiering in 2013 Vikings is a historical drama series on the History Channel, written by Michael Hirst. It follows the story of one of the most famous of the legendary Norse Heroes, known as Ragnar Lothbrok. Vikings tells his rags to riches story as he rises from the poverty of being a farmer to earl of his town and onwards, raiding other countries for wealth and power and even going as far as to become a Scandinavian King.
Vikings is still currently under production and has released five seasons so far, and although the sixth has been announced to be the final season, the popularity of the show has earned a spin-off series to come. High praise was given to the series from critics especially on the casting with Travis Fimmel as Ragnar very well received. It was noted by Wall Street Journal that Vikings was "not a celebration of sex and violence, but "a study of character, stamina, power and of social, emotional and even intellectual awakening".
