The Walking Dead: 10 Best Episodes So Far

3. Too Far Gone

Written by: Seth Hoffman Directed by: Ernest Dickerson You could almost be reluctant to put this episode so high, for it's fairly straight-forward compared to the others. But at the same time, this is one of the most hard-hittingly emotional moments the series has yet to achieve, and it is an impressive feat that it only took them half a season to bring the show around from season 3's mediocrity to this level of dramatic action. Like "Pretty Much Dead Already", "Too Far Gone" is an episode built to correct the mistakes of past episodes. The episode does a stellar job bringing two groups of well-defined characters into conflict with one another, giving the conflict massive amounts of catharsis. And while the CGI fire and muzzle flashes for some reason look particularly fake in this episode, odds are the emotional shell-shock was too great for you to notice. There are a lot of memorable moments in this episode, but the one that defines it and makes it great comes during Rick's pre-carnage monologue. "We're not too far gone." These people have come a long way, but hope is still there, even if people like the governor will try their best to squash it. RIP Hershel.
