The Walking Dead: 11 Best Introductory Episodes

1. "Too Far Gone" (Season 4, Episode 8)

"Beside The Dying Fire" was a game-changer, marking a shift from relative protection to life on the run. "Killer Within" was also a game-changer, demonstrating a significant shift in the main cast and reminding viewers that anything really can happen on The Walking Dead. "Too Far Gone," however, basically involved the obliteration of the game and the throwing-out of all of the rulebook. When the prison is faced with an army comprised of the living rather than the dead (and happens to have a functional tank at its disposal), Rick and the other survivors must find a way to defend the stronghold that is their only protection from the Walker hordes. "Too Far Gone" is one of the most intense episodes of the series thus far, featuring the entire cast of characters in a desperate struggle to protect what is theirs. With the threat of mutually assured destruction present in every exchange between Team Prison and the attackers, viewers have no choice but to watch on the edges of their seats and hope that their favourites make it out alive. So much happens so very quickly that even the characters that generally have the most secure plot armour feel like they are in terrible danger of being killed off. The episode ends on an infuriating cliffhanger, and we cannot help but eagerly await €“ and perhaps slightly dread €“ whatever fate shall befall the characters in the second half of the fourth season.
