6. Maggie Solves A Problem ("Seed") Walking Dead Maggie Season three begins somewhat more promisingly for our intrepid heroes, the Ricktatorship established at the end of season two having served them well in the off-season. They find a prison that has been overrun by zombies. As a prison would be a perfect place to fortify against zombies, Rick decrees that they will take the prison yard, and it goes surprisingly well. Then, when Rick, Daryl, Glenn, T-Dog, and Maggie press inward toward the buildings, they are met by a group of zombie prison guards decked out in riot gear. The armor and helmets are enough to prevent their knives and Daryl's crossbow from doing any damage. Before they have no choice but to flee, Maggie leaps at a riot gear zombie, shoves its face mask upwards, and stabs through the neck into the brain. Why It's Great: Well, for one thing, the riot gear zombies were just cool. Also, Maggie had grown from traumatized farm girl into a fighter who could more than hold her own with the more-experienced boys. In a show that often struggles with writing for female characters, her sheer glee when she figures out how to kill the riot gear zombies was wonderful to behold. It's not often that the crossbow fails them, and seeing Maggie outdo fan-favorite Daryl felt like a huge step in the right direction. You go, girl.
